DATUMS

Satellite ground movement monitoring · Malaysia & Singapore

The ground moves. Most of the time, nobody is measuring it.

Datums uses radar satellite data to measure how much the ground beneath a building has moved — to the millimetre, going back to 2015. Klang Valley coverage is in development.

What we measure

  • SETTLEMENT

Ground consolidating under load. Common on former mining land, reclaimed ground, soft clay and peat. Slow, steady, and the main cause of structural damage to low-rise buildings.

  • DIFFERENTIAL MOVEMENT

One part of a building sinking faster than another. This is what cracks walls — not uniform settlement.

  • HISTORY

Radar archives go back to 2015. We can show how a building has moved over the past decade, even though nobody was watching at the time.

What this is not

Datums measures surface movement. It is not a structural assessment, and it does not replace ground investigation or a site inspection by a registered professional engineer.

We cannot predict sinkholes. Slow surface sag sometimes precedes a collapse and we will flag it where we see it, but many voids give no surface warning at all. Anyone who tells you otherwise is selling something.
